I was reading a craft book the other day and thought of you -- there were instructions for making ice globes...you put things inside of a balloon, fill it with water, and then freeze it. So simple! And it would be awesome for people like me who don't have cold enough weather to make the cool ice sculptures you've been making. So pretty!

My dear Margie,
This is such an important issue. The world is more sensitive today about how our planet is suffering but there is still so much more to do. I hope that we can change things quickly or otherwise our children will inherit a sad planet and at some point the consequences will be so serious. We need lots of people like you to inspire other human beings!
Love!
Elsita :)

That is astonishing! I feel conflicted at times about the implications of global warming. I know we as humans have not taken care of our home in the most responsible manner and we play a huge part in that. But what about the natural evolution of the planet? We as humans and other species evolve, why not the planet as a whole? There used to be ice ages, but the world is different now. How do we know that the planet wasn't already evolving to that point? I don't know everything or anything, but I do try to do my part in being responsible, although I could always do more. You're work is always inspiring.

I didn't know it was going to happen so soon... My first reaction while reading your post was turning off the light... as if it would help. Polar bears break my heart, but it is such an important thing worldwide and nobody pays attention...

Siena

Great post! I share your love for polar bears, and have seen some out in the wild - fabulous! I love ice too, and get very inspired when I see what you are making of it!

I too share the pain of our brother polar bear. What a magnificent animal to fall due to our greed. This is one reason I purchased your polar bear photo. I feel a kinship with their plight. Perhaps you could design a tee using that photo and the date of the ice vanishing... Again thank-you for sharing your thoughts.

I will be passing this message on to family and friends... sending them here, too. Your words and images always have a tremendous impact!

That's really sad.
Ice isn't something we get a lot of here in Melbourne, Australia. As a child there used to be occasional ice in winter, even the odd snowfall, but these days not so much. We're in drought over here and I'd give anything for some rain. We can only water the gardens twice a week, social conversation revolves around who's put a new rainwater tank in, we reminisce about the days where we could run under the sprinkler in the front lawn. Anything to do with ice/water/snow vanishing is sad.
Thanks for the informative post.

a polar expert is giving a lecture at my school on friday about the melting of the ice caps and the changing arctic landscape. you should come check it out ;)

Sam

I knew about the ice diminishing and the plight of the polar bear, but 6 years! That seems too quick to be fixable.
Thankyou for making us all aware of what's happening.
