Thus when at first Love had them marshalled, John Davies 1594
As erst he did the shapeless mass of things,
He taught them Roundes and winding Heyes to tread,
And about trees to cast themselves in rings:
As the two Beares, whom the First Mover flings
With a short turne about Heaven's axle tree,
In a rounde daunce for ever whirling be.
All creatures great and small enjoyed themselves immensely.

So, so enchanting and lovely! And I'm impressed that your guests actually wrapped the ribbon around the maypole (last time we tried at my daughter's 5th birthday party it didn't quite look like yours) :-)
