I really love the fact that you can travel and visit natural history museums all over the world and no two museums will display there treasures in exactly the same manner. As a child growing up in Ottawa and spending every so many sundays exploring the museum of nature, I never thought any other museum on earth would hold as much fascination for me. Then there was the museum in London, England and Vienna, Austria that I absolutely adored. I must say there was something quite special and unique about the Harvard Museum of Natural History. They have an amazing assortment of specimens in a fairly small display area and they are arranged in very beautiful ways. 

The bird displays were a good example of this. They appeared very scientific and yet artful. Vintage and yet holding great modern appeal, since there is a resurgence of collections and their displaying happening. Forgive me if you wanted to see detailed pictures of birds. What I really wanted to photograph was the overall appearance and design.

Over the next few days I am inviting you to see the harvard museum of natural history through my camera lens. It was my first visit there and it is definitely high up there on my list of natural history museums definitely worth a visit. Most visitors travel there to see the famous glass flower and botany specimens but there is so much more to amaze the eye. So come on lets enter the non elaborate edifice ( we actually walked right by it at first).

Today I want to share the beautiful, creative displays of the some of the smallest inhabitants of the world.

Amazing seeing such biodiversity isn't it. Tomorrow I will show you some of the displays of the other creatures with wings. I know some one in particular who will love them.

liberty and linen fir cones

A sneak peak at something I have been working on. I have been making fabric pine cones for the past two years but I am trying to refine them and at the same time make then smaller. This little peak is the progress thus far. I have made a few liberty tana lawn and natural linen fir cones that are just over three centimeters in length.

late november walk in the forest

These pictures were taken from my last decent walk in the forest this november. It has been very dark after work and too busy in my office to take lunch time walks so my forest time has been very minimal. This is probably the last long walk I can manage before the snow arrives (yipee) and a new month commences.

 

I like to think that brave little moth was hanging around just to show me its fringe.

birds are popping up everywhere these days

Things happen when you surround yourself with bird loving friends. 

I saw a beautiful woodpecker in the forest and I have started my next bird embroidered on a vintage hankie, a chickadee.  What sort of birds have you been seeing? Geninne is selling some gorgeous originals in her big cartel shop.

After the latest full page glossy print in a wonderful magazine, Kids LIfe, published in Germany, fern has been acting like a celebrity, brushing up on his german and asking for an agent. All kidding aside I was thrilled to receive my copy of this fantastic magazine in the mail today. I thought the article would occupy a page at the very most but it is four full pages long!!!. 

If anyone sees this magazine being sold, please let me know. I would love to purchase a few extra copies for fern to sign:)
