in the deep freeze of january

 

the circle of life

a fairisle sweater i knit for my first child over two decades ago

and now revisited in earthy shades for my first grandchild

due to arrive any day now

 

the colors remind me of the last few sunny days with a light dusting of soft snow on the still green grass in spots:)

I designed a warm little hat to go along with it 

and again i love the inside :)

( the sweater pattern is from my very favorite baby knitting magazine, Pingouin, no 49, which is long out of print but sometimes is available on ebay)

wordless wednesday : lunch version

one skein of wool : one movie : one knitted turban

my youngest daughter is really into turbans, turbands.....

we recently purchased one on sale after christmas 

and as i studied it i thought to myself

that looks easy enough to make

one skein of mulberry silk/merino that i had on hand

cast on 20 stitches

knit 1:1 rib for 100 cm while watching a really good old movie 

away from her directed by sarah polley ( who just so happens to shop at bookhou)

circle, crossover, stitch at the back, down the middle, a little at the sides

and a turban was born

sorry i couldn't find a more attractive model 

but the kitties were having no part of it

they hate when their ears are covered

the photograph was taken in the guest room closet

mitten monday

a few more mittens from my collection 

these are referred to as trigger finger mitts and used to be really popular in the Newfoundland. I also heard them referred to as glittens ( what you get as offspring when a mitten and a glove get together:) 

the blue and white ones on the far left are unfinished and have a tale to unravel

lucky friday the 13th

i am not superstitious

but the radio news reporter said that most people are

yesterday i was starting to wonder when the gas pump wouldn't give back my credit card

but after work 

things were on the lucky side

lovely thrift store finds

cashmere for blankies, handmade liberty of london dress, beautiful wool baby blankies

and a huge box of honeybell oranges from florida

a thoughtful gift from my brother and his wife
