i came across something worth saving
a worn out moccasin, perhaps one of the most beautiful
ones we have ever had
i believe they came as a gift from my sister Kathy
to my daughter Tamara
and warmed her toes for many, many years
they were handmade in the traditional way
they were almost completely worn out on the bottom, the soft wool lining was in shredds
as the trim or rabbit fur was only there enough to be recognizable
and yet the heart, the shield, the beaded artistry in the center was mostly intact
a few tiny seed beeds missing here and there but just as beautiful as the day they were created
so i preformed heart surgery
cutting away to save it
maybe it will be transplanted one day to a new moccasin
or
maybe it will be framed as a reminder
of all the tiny little stitches that shielded this heart and held it together all this time

My goodness, yes it would have been unthinkable for me to throw this treasure away. Gorgeous in many ways, that you so eloquently mentionned in your post. Thank you so much for sharing, my friend !

Oh wow, it's fabulous.
It would make up into a beautiful mini pouch for keeping treasures in :)
