You can see the picture that inspired this here.
My reason for this particular inspiration had to do with the interviews with amazing artists I have been posting for the past 10 days. Everything starts with an idea and then grows. These teeny tiny little seeds ( that's all of you) with only 5 genes grow to mature plants ( artists and makers of things) in only 6 weeks and then the seed pods burst ( you share what you have created) releasing the new seeds ( inspiration) over a vast area ( the world , virtual or real) and then the cycle starts again and again and again.
So there you have it is a tiny little mustard seed all the makings of a creative revolution. We can change the world.
No one guessed what the inspiration was so I decided to award the prize to the most inspired answer which was
A new comment from “pejnolan” was received on the post “Guess the Nature Inspiration #6” of the weblog “resurrection fern”.
Comment:
In your post on the 8th you show an embroidary that says, "Trees that grow hearts." I think this is a seed pod from a tree and three little hearts are inside waiting to spring up through the rich soil in which they were planted. Seeds are a symbol of hope, renewal and strength... a miracle of nature. A person's heart is the same. It bounces back with the smallest of hope, tended by the rich earth of faith and grows to love again.
This answer really spoke to my heart and mind. Sorry if you didn't win but you will have another chance tomorrow. It is a very special day in Resurrectionfern land and special days deserve special giveaways. See you tomorrow.
If you are not familiar with how this works it is like this. I made something , in this case with crocheting inspired by something in nature. I want you to guess what that inspiration was and try to be as specific as possible or as imaginative as possible. You can guess as many times as you want and involve your friends and family in the process. The correct answers will be awarded a prize ( something handmade by me) and if no one guesses I will choose the closest answer or draw a random winner. I will reveal the answer on January 10th which by the way is the day before my blog first birthday which I may also celebrate with another giveaway. Then on friday it will be my first shop update of the new year. A very busy week in deed and many chances for you to come away with a little handmade piece of resurrection fern.
"Society evolves not by shouting each other down, but by the unique capacity of unique, individual human beings to comprehend each other. " LEWIS THOMAS from his book The Medusae and the Snail
The inspiration was this beautiful coronate ( crown like ) jellyfish that I really wanted to embroider after discovering these images from the Medusae Hall ceilings that were painted in the early 1900's inspired by the drawings of Haeckel.
This beautiful coronate jellyfish exhibits bioluminescence which is the emission of light by a living organism. I attempted to incorporate this concept in my needlework by using some glow in the dark and neon colored embroidery thread from Japan. The real problem for me was trying to photograph it with my simple digital camera.
You are getting much better at this game because this time 4 different people guessed jellyfish. The winners are Kelly, Kristen , Rane and Daniela. I agree it really did look like a virus particle but alas that was not the inspiration. I will be emailing the winners to obtain their addresses and send off the prizes. Thanks so much for participating over this very busy halloween weekend. Here are the two pumpkins my daughter Tamara and I carved on friday night just before dark.
Since I finally mailed off the prizes for the last contest I guess it is fair to post the next installment of what has become my favorite component of this little blog. Remember the last one , Brainbow. Did any of you notice how a few weeks later it was all over the news with the scientist who discovered the labeled proteins that allow the brain tissue to be viewed in technicolor winning the Nobel Prize for Chemistry. Remember you heard it first here.
So it really pays to study hard or at least use that great imagination of yours to guess this next one. I had loads of fun playing with new types of high tech japanese embroidery threads for this one and then photographing it with different light sources. It was needlefelted and then embroidered on a vintage wool scarf from my stash. Guess as many times as you like and please involve the entire family. As Rane said last time it was more entertaining than television as were Rane's answers to the contest. You have until next the stike of midnight on sunday to place your guess and the one who guesses correctly or the closest answer will win an awesome prize. I have been known to award prizes for entertainment value as well so keep that in mind.
Happy guessing !!!
