Remember pet rocks ? I want to introduce you to the latest in the huge trend for covered river or sea stones, rock baby. It started with me wanting to crochet a cover for one of my very few large smooth stones I have in my possession. I started with some vintage grey crochet cotton in my stash, but I ran out about 2/3 's of the way up the rock and switched to yellow. I liked how a thin stipe of yellow looked with the natural grey stone peeking out so I stopped there.
I was working at the kitchen table with my daughter painting a father's day painting and my nephew Roberto was painting as well.

My daughter told me it looked like a baby wrapped in a blanket and encouraged me to paint a simple face on it.

I think Rock Baby looks really sweet sleeping in the sand. If any one is interested I could write up a tutorial so you can all make your very own rock babies. Have a great monday and don't forget to read elsita's blog today. She is back after a blog vacation.

Your rock baby is very sweet, and yes a tutorial would be very welcome! I've been counting down the days til Elsita's return, too!

YES, YES, YES!!!
Tutorial please!!!!!
Margie, this little baby rock is adorable!
I have a whole bag of rocks and I have been meaning to create something with them. I got a book about how to paint rocks and it is also cute what you can do with rocks and paint. I have been a lot into crochet lately as you know, that's why I would LOVE to learn how you make the baby blanket.
I think that the idea of drawing the little baby face on the rock was great!
