Viola odorata is the wonderfully scented sweet violet with its beautiful little flower that often hides beneath the leaves and has become a symbol of shyness & modesty.
Myths & legends are of abundance for this tiny flower, which have given us such phrases as 'shrinking violet & blushing violet'.
i spent a great deal of time in the garden over the past weekend and as i was weeding , mulching, turning the soil , of course I had to watch out for my littlest snail friends. I started to really take notice of the abundance of tiny little blossoms in the grass, garden and on some of the shrubs. I wanted to see how many i could gather for some little thimble vases but first I did a little photoshoot with them. You see it isn't that they are too shy to voice their opinion or too bashful to some out from under their leaves , it is just that most of us don't even notice them.
In the forest the trilliums are fading and the wood violets in shades of purple, blue and yellow are having their days being noticed.
print, please!

How beautiful! I love this!
I just planted several different types or moss and other ground covers in my garden, and choose each one because of the delicate tiny wee flowers on them.

Ah, sweet violets...definitely a favourite. On Mother's Day I spent a happy half hour gathering violets from my mother's lawn and garden in the east end of Toronto. (She was away.) While there I saw two hummingbirds, a yellow warbler, a kinglet and an oriole. Not bad for a suburban yard--I think they know they have a friend in her.
