I bet by now you might think that is something I do quite often and you are probably right. As a prelude to back to school we were doing a little bedroom rearranging here in the home of resurrectionfern. When I was moving my things I decided I needed a better way to display my favorite earrings and pins than in the vintage tin tray on my dresser. I found a thrift store wooden frame, a beautiful rectangular piece of vintage hand crocheted lace, a needle and a thread and off to work I went. I stretched the lace over the frame and stitched it tight in the back. I guess I could have used staples or finishing nails but that would have damaged the frame and perhaps the lace as well. Here is the result.
Elsita and
Maria make my favorite pins and almost all of my favorite earrings are designed by
Ayala Bar.
No sooner had I made this than other wearers of earrings in my house started putting in their orders. Tamara decided she needed two or three for her room so we made some with some vintage doilies in embroidery hoops.
Last night I was also experimenting with making some lace stamps for printing on paper and hopefully later some fabric. I used some pieces I had started for some crochet covered stones and some wooden blocks from the toy chest. Here is a little preview.
The sun was setting when I took those photographs.
I can't wait to tweak this a little and then print some fabric borders for some fall sewing projects.
crazy good idea! love the way the doillie looks in the embroidery hoop...

That is such a good one. I want to try it on a square wood frame, and maybe put some hooks along the bottom of the frame for necklaces.

Your earring holder is such a good idea, and they look so pretty hanging up.
I love the idea of printing from crochet. I'm going to have to try that myself. :-)

they turned out great - what a great way to combine your crocheting and printing.

This is so cool! I just found an old doily I have from Kyrgyzstan and wondered what to do with it -- all the while wondering what to do with all my vintage jewellery! Found you on a Foothill Home Companion.

Your idea for crochet covered stones could also be used to transform ugly/boring kitchen cabinet knobs!

You got a very nice idea. I'm in the crafting about three years, but that is first time I see such cute piece to show the jewels. You got me want to try make it by myself. It looks very attractive for me, I have many jeweleries made by my hands and it's good way to show them.

The stamps are such a clever idea. Love the earring holder (and your jewelry) too. I made one that is similar a while back using a piece of lace curtain that I dyed.

This weekend’s DIY project comes courtesy of Audrey, aka HGK-handmade. Right now, Audrey’s shop is filled with gorgeous pieces of jewellery, which she loves to wear as well as make. Like many a jewellery lover, she found herself needing a practical yet pretty way to store and display her items.
