Today I remember those that laid down their lives for us so that we might live free.
I believe almost all the veterans of world war 1 are now deceased but the seeds of their hope and strength live on in each and every one of us. I have been honored to have known some of these brave souls and they have enriched my life. They will never be forgotten.
What a beautiful tribute Margie. Yes, the last UK WWI veteran, Harry Patch just passed away here in July, he was 111.
We are so privileged to enjoy freedom thanks to heroes like Harry and the thousands whose names have never made news.

Thank you so much for these poppies! In France we turned the day of rememberance into a day of franco-german friendship day (what about other countries?). Although it is a good idea, I find it a little too early for that, as if we had waited for the last soldier to be dead to turn a mourning into a big, modern party... Anyway! Let's love peace and remember what it takes!

Well said, Margie.
Is that a personal picture of yours with the tank and the children? Is there a story behind that?

Nicely stated. That first photo is an amazing one.
I wonder, like Jennifer the commenter before me, about the tank photo.

I can remember when I was young you would see veterans all over town giving out little paper poppies on Veteran's Day. I don't think they do that anymore. I miss it.
I love reading your blog!

Thank you for this post! On the 28th of October the Greeks said the famous "NO" to the Italians and fought back at WWII. Wars shouldn't happen anywhere!Ariadne from Greece!
