It is -6 degrees celsius at the moment with a low expected tonight of about -10. You know what that means? Perfect weather to make ice decorations for the holidays. This arctic chill also coincides with the advent calendar activity of the day over at the awesome website, cut out and keep ( click on the 19th and you will see what I mean) and also the January issue of Woman's Day Magazine where you will notice something familiar on page 16.
The kitties and I are staying cozy and warm in the kitchen finishing up a few Christmas gifts and listening to Joni Mitchell. These few lines from one of my favorite songs of hers, the circle game really hit me today.
Then the child moved ten times round the seasons
Skated over ten clear frozen streams
Words like, when you're older, must appease him
And promises of someday make his dreams
I have a wonderful last minute gift recommendation for you. Funny when I did the link for Joni's website it just so happens to also be on her homepage. I think almost anyone would enjoy the 1970 concert, Amchitka, in Vancouver British Columbia that launched Greenpeace and included Phil Ochs, James Taylor and the ever so lovely Joni Mitchell. You can purchase and download the music here. While we are on the topic of ephemeral ice art, I think you would enjoy the art of Gloria Lamson.
Enjoy your weekend.
the doilies in ice take my breath away! thank goodness for the sunshine.

Oh, Margie, I love each & every of your ice wreaths ! What a treat for the birds when it'll start to melt (with all the berries ... yum for the birds !) The bowl with pine cones inside is one of my favorites too. It's just below freezing point here ... so I'll enjoy yours as I won't be able to make them myself.
Arwen ... ah, that kitty knows how to live ! :D oxoxo

There is something so incredibly beautiful to me about these frozen pieces. I feel my eyes welling up as I sit here. We have our fair share of the sub-zero and this reminds me that I can take advantage of it and make something beautiful outside, not just huddled inside in front of the fire.

I listened to Joni Mitchell "Blue" way back in high school (I may be dating myself). Love that music. I'm really liking the ice art. My son is getting his tonsils out this week and we will be staying very close to home for a while. I think these projects could be a fun distraction during recovery.

I love the iced doilies and wreaths. We have a lot of rain so I can make one in the freezer! But then it will melt outside but it will keep a while to get admiring glances at the Christmas table.Ariadne from Greece!

My hands get ice cold around this season, is there something I can get to make them not be cold?
