I was out on the porch the other evening arranging some lovely sea stones from my other dear friend from LA who just so happens to have a wonderful new blog when my youngest daughter came out and asked me what I was doing. Without thinking the first thing that sprung from my mouth was "playing". I work hard so don't I deserve a little playtime?
Throw into the mix some very small merfish and the late evening light and minutes turn to an hour. At the last trunk show a lovely person bought a merfish for a friend of hers that had just had a baby. She loved how I had them displayed in shells and asked to purchase a shell for it. I gave her one because I really was smitten with that idea and I am now thinking of offering custom merfish in shells for new parents. I do need to make sure I have enough mer suitable stones before I list this in the shop.
It reminded me of a wonderful short story I heard , read by the author herself on CBC radio last year, Where Babies come from by Heather O'Neil. I don't want to give it away but needless to say babies don't come from the cabbage patch nor are they delivered by the stork.
Hoping to get to the beach myself tomorrow.

Merfishes in a shell sounds so poetic, what a lovely idea ! So glad I had sent you some (I suppose) merfish suitable stones.
Big hugs my friend xoxo Hope you can go to the beach

The merfish are just too cute! I like them almost or as much as the covered stones. They are nice with the shells.

We should all play more if playing produces results like these!

I love your fish! Years ago I wove fish out of seed beads and I think I'm going to have to do it again. Thanks for the spark!

It feels good to 'play' sometimes but it is such a guilty pleasure, because one is grown up and one shouldn't waste time thus.
But when you play you make some wonderful discoveries like the lovely shaddow photographs. They are delightful.

all the merfish and the snails look like they're having lots of fun playing as well! i think every merfish needs a shell, just like every person needs a bed to sleep in :)

Hello Margaret, I'm a big fan of your work and have even tried my hand at a couple of crocheted rock covers from Crochet Today magazine. I'm also a regular visitor to your blog though haven't yet left a comment. I just loved this display of rocks and your creatures/creations. Simply beautiful. Thanks for all the inspiring things you bring into the world!

Une perle née d'une maille au fin fond des coquilles, l'histoire se tisse et s'empile sous ton regard aux mille doigts. I'm travelling in your ferm, every time. Thanks to you.
