I must have been a pretty good girl last year because santa (aka my husband) bought me a wonderful macro lens for my camera. I am just starting to take it outside to see my natural world closer than was possible with my other lens. I realize that for the best , clearest images I really should be using my tripod but I just can't get used to the thought of lugging that around with me and I seem to have misplaced my light weight mini tripod. If I hold the camera very still and shoot between breaths while the light is still half decent it seems to take a decent shot. I did a few comparison shots for you to see the difference between old and new lens and then I just had a little fun with the macro lens on a very brief but absolutely delightful walk in the forest yesterday.
can anyone guess what those red things are?
xo
Wow. It's like putting on magic glasses!

Those look like sumac seeds to me. I love the way those trees look at the start of the winter, with red flames at the branch tips.
You're making me wish I took my camera on walks here. But I'm not sure if my toddler would stop long enough for me to get any photos as lovely as yours.

I can't wait to see what you do with the new lens. The lichen shot is my favourite.

I think those are sumac berries. I just bought sumac the other day to make za'atar. Yum!
I love that we will all get to benefit from your Christmas gift. I look forward to seeing more of your beautiful photos!

Looks to me like 2011 is going to be a beautiful year :) I particularly love the close-up of the yellow lichen (?) on the tree branch. Thanks for sharing!
