So full of life an potential and yet so humble and simple in design. I love seeds. I just returned from the celebration of life for my dear friend ruth and I know she would be really happy with me planting seeds for dyeing in her honour. It was so fantastic to hear her children and grandchildren speak of her life. At one time she had almost a hundred animals and according to her son they were all like pets. She named each of them with wonderful names , sometimes with first , middle and last names and she knew each of them intimately. Imagine beatrix potter and dr doolittle combined and you might come somewhere close to how amazing this woman was. I am so honored to have been able to know her in my own little way and also to have been able to ease her suffering. 

and just for fun I carved out a few seeds last night.

the marsh awakens

I am very blessed to work steps away from a protected wet land. It was very warm one day this week and I decided to step out at lunch to see if I could be enchanted by the chorus of spring peepers. I wasn't disappointed but in between the song I heard many other sounds of awakening. Some I was able to capture with my camera and some I only caught glimpses of from the corner of my eye ( the turtles diving into the water).

don't want you to think i have given up on sea stones

i still feel they are the roots that have anchored me here in this online arts and crafts world. They are the firm foundation upon which I have continued to build upon and be inspired by. This combination of hand made stamp of roots, stem and leaves and this onion skin dyed crochet covered sea stone really got me thinking about this connection. I do hope no one has misunderstood me. I love the fact so many people are making covered stones. I am happy if I had any part to play in this with my online tutorials and magazine instructions.

Some people have told me that I share too much and that is why some people are using this to their own advantage. I don't agree. One can not stop being who they are because a few people have no sense of morality. So I will continue to share and if you see something on line that you think is mine but is not here or in my flickr stream than perhaps you will think about what I have written.

Tomorrow I have some amazing macro shots to share with you of the spring awakening in the marsh area behind my office.

very important post you all must read here in honour of world intellectual property day!!! Many of you will know that this is a topic very close to my heart and although I have chosen to not discuss it openly here in this space it does not mean I am not thinking about it or trying in other ways to deal with it.  Don't forget to enter the giveaway from yesterday's post and if you wonder what you might win here are some fun pictures of the natural dyed and crocheted bamboo stones. wood you like to win

all you need to do to win is leave a comment telling me your favorite natural thing that is tiny, that is under 1 cm in size. I will pick a winner on friday at midnight. Oh maybe you are wondering what it is that you will win? Well I have dyed and crocheted up a little clan of bamboo stones. They are all dyed with natural materials and I love them so much. The colors sing true to me and I am not sure I am going to be crocheting much with synthetic dyed fibers much any more. It might be just neutrals and natural colors or nothing. I think they look extra beautiful photographed alongside the wooden stones that lisa has so brilliantly made for me. She sent them to me to have little coats made but they are just so gorgeous in their birthday suits that I just have not had the heart to clothe them.  By the way Lisa has moved her shop to big cartel and it looks amazing. I am wearing one of her vessel necklaces in one of these photographs. I wore it all day and it had scilla in it for a while and then I placed a tiny pussy willow branch in it. So the prize will be one of these special new stones, packaged in a very special and not yet revealed way.

a little easter visitor

and some first experiments in staining wood with natural dyes. I dyed some nude wooden eggs with oak, logwood, lac and alkanet. 

 

isn't it amazing how the spider's torso looks just like the buds on the bush. I could have watched it spin its web for hours.

Since I feel very fortunate and it has been a while, I decided tomorrow I will have a giveaway. All you will need to do to enter is tell me your favorite natural thing that is under a cm in size.

lemon tarts and treats

the day began with a mexican style breakfast complete with organic meyer lemon tarts ( made by tamara and i) and delicious chocolate eggs and tiddly chicks ( thank you ray and yes that is what they were called). Then we moved to the next town for a lovely lunch with the booth family. It was so nice to meet John's parents and see their heritage home.

give it up for earth day

We all have the ability to change, to do something, little or big to make this a better, greener, cleaner, healthier world for ourselves and more importantly for future generations. Small eco battles are being fought across this planet that we live in. Don't hide under a stone ( yes I said that), educate yourself about the issues in your own neighbourhood and also those happening on the other side of the world. We all grow our food in the soil, breath the air and drink the water.  We all must protect these essential life giving resources all across this earth.
