I dyed these pieces over a week ago as part of my 100 meter summer of dyeing project. I sort of forgot about them on a tiny little clothesline behind my lab bench in the back garden. The week of sun has faded them ever so slightly and I was planning on bringing them indoors, ironing them and taking little snips for my dye journal but of course since it is the weekend we are experiencing a heavy rain with thunder and lightening. So before I forget what they are I thought I would at least show you a few pictures of them hanging out.
this is silk noil, wool felt and vintage crochet cotton solar dyed in the liquid obtained after simmering flowering almond bush pruned twigs. I really like this color. Here is the flower of the bush in case you are not familiar with it.
They are so delicate and lovely but oh so short lived in this climate.
This is the same materials solar dyed after steeping birch catkins that I collected from my driveway.
Group shot from left to right, birch bark, soaked for a few days and then boiled with the silk noil, wild ginger flowers (solar dyed) on silk, and the last one that is barely in the photo is carpet bugle flowers solar dyed on silk.
love all the soft colours you are achieving, especially from the almond flowers. so lovely. the sun is shining today and i'm hoping it will make my dye jars happy!

Birch bark eh? I think I have some of that around here...catkins too. I might have to try that. Beautiful results.

Just this morning I swept up a pile of the birch catkins and threw them out. do you put anything in with it besides the fabric and the water?

I love the scent of flowering almond! They are rampant around here in Alaska. We are having rain here too, but no thunder. Hugs to you and yours

Now it's my comment that is a little overdue... I've been taking a mini-computer break.
I love the delicate colours of the last photo!
