here is a little warm up to the month

if all of this wasn't reason enough to love this town

in fact we don't actually have a garage
on Saturday, June 2 and Sunday, June 3
from 9 am to 3 pm
the resurrectionfern family will be having a
porch, driveway, front and backyard sale
our first one ever!!!
we have been sorting through 20 plus years of collecting
Some of what you will find at almost giveaway prices will be
vintage clothing and accessories
vintage fabric and linens
supplies for makers of just about anything
(to include fill your bag with beautiful wool yarns and coloful fleece for felting)
good books including many wonderful craft books, some not so good books
vinyl records ( had to keep my talking heads and brian eno though)
vintage and collectable tins
vintage sewing baskets
vintage dishes and vases
childrens toys including the largest collection of my little ponies you will ever lay eyes on:)
We are a short drive north of Toronto
and there is a GO bus that runs from
union station to the Aurora Go station every hour
all weekend long or you can take the VIVA bus from finch subway station along yonge street
although this won't be possible on sunday since it is the worlds largest street sale being held
in aurora and yonge street will be closed
if you are seriously thinking of coming to the mother of all garage sales
email me or leave me a message bellow
tell me where abouts you are coming from and I will send you directions.
I guarantee it will be well worth the trip to Aurora.

it was a beautiful fresh sunday morning for the walk for memories
one young boy impressed us all by running it with his mother
tamara, deborah and i walked
and really enjoyed some of the nature we saw along the way
Lilith helped me pick a winner of the giveaway
and it is Kathleen:)
So happy I don't have to mail the stone too far away.

are four of my favorite things to find beachcombing along the great lakes in ontario
and
the spring provides the very best time to find them in my experience
the bird skeletons are so beautiful
i also love that i found two pieces of "sea" glass
not a common finding away from the "sea"
and
that smoothed out wooden clothespin

the things that didn't make me happy
were the large amounts of plastic detritus
littering the shore

on our first long walk
alongside the sculpted (by the wind and waves) terraces
on lake ontario
my son spotted a mysterious shape in the stone
the last shot is so you can get an idea of the scale of this piece
and wonder why my one nail isn't painted:)
so any one know what this might be?
fossil? core sample from geological survey? alien beer bottle?
I wish we could have brought it home with our other treasures

i am still collecting donations for the walk for memories this saturday
imagine waking up one day
finding that your basket of memories
had been scattered about
try as you might to gather them up again
some of them remained out of reach
"Landmark data from the World Health Organization (WHO) and Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI) in their report Dementia: A Public Health Priority show that around the world a new case of dementia occurs every four seconds. That is the equivalent of 7.7 million new cases each year. In the words of global health expert Dr. Peter Piot, dementia is a ‘ticking time bomb.’" Some of you may know I have been touched personally by this disease. My mother, Alice, developed vascular dementia in her last decade of life. I see patients with this disease in increasing numbers and help them and their families struggle with its many challenges. This year I will be taking part in the Walk for Memories with some of children and perhaps even my grandchild. The goal is to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society of York Region which runs day programs for those affected by this disease and offers education and support to caregivers and family members. I am one of the newest board members of this wonderful organization.
This coming saturday my family and I will be walking in memory of Alice and we would appreciate it if you might consider making a donation. I chose to make my campaign private so I will not show up on the list of walkers. If you would like to donate you can click on the left hand side to make a donation.
