one of my personal favorite colors any time of year but I adore how it brightens up my summers

aren't those little red insect eggs amazing:)

A gathering of butterflies like these canadian tiger swallowtails is called a puddle club. Puddle-clubbing is a gathering of bachelor male butterflies, usually of the same species, at a moist spot on the ground usually rich in mineral or salt deposits. All that mating in the heat of summer can really dehydrate a guy. I guess it is kind of like going to the bar and drinking a cold beer:)

summer is off to a totally amazing start

the wonderful warm weather 

the profusion of mid summer flowers in the garden weeks earlier than usual

the appearance of insects I have never seen in my garden before

and the mommy fox doing laps around my yard this evening

during the very much needed

 summer showers ( sorry she was so fast that I didn't get a photograph)

edgar rather oblivious to the fact that summer started at all:)

 

wordless wednesday all a flutter

brushing off the dust from the dye jars

I haven't done any natural dyeing since last fall 

I dusted off the dye jars I had stored away for the winter

and also started to revive my indigo and woad jars too

I dyed an antique dress for a little girl that looks quite lovely in blue

and some organic linen fiber for a friend of mine

it feels good to be dyeing again
