My favorite: quilt-like nativity scenes made from burlap and scraps by a friend's grandmother... so lovely!

Many Christmases ago when I was a very young girl I took a Sweet Gum ball, painted it purple and covered it in silver glitter. It was hung on my parents' trees through the years and now hangs on our tree each year. Not much glitter is left and the string it hangs from has been changed out several times. My favorite collection of ornaments is my Frosty Friends series from Hallmark. My father gave me the first one and each subsequent one for the past 32 years, sadly this year it was up to me to get the 33rd as my dear sweet Daddy died this past June. The 'Friends' will have their own little tree this year in memory of him :)

There are no better then the ones my children made while in school....I still pack them carefully away each year, and they still get a kick out of seeing them, with the cloths pins they are attached to, on the tree each year.....

Since my daughter was just a little thing, I have been making an ornament every year for her and putting in her stocking. Some have been felted, some put together with wood and glue and assorted other bits of beauty, some carved. The goal is that by the time she is grown and putting up her own Christmas tree in her own home, she will have a treasure box of ornaments, each with their own story, all made with love that she can look back on.

It's not much : it's two oranges with cloves above the TV that we did with my boyfriend last year for our first Christmas together.

I made some clay ornaments the year I stayed at a Quaker retreat center for the fall. They are heavy and weigh the tree down but I still love them.
