uncovered

i was looking through my pile of naturally dyed fabrics and in the bottom of the basket i uncovered a little piece I started about three years ago at the time of my art show at craftland. I decided to finish the circles of stitching and then i hope to sew it into something wearable. Hopefully that won't take another three years to accomplish.

and just when i thought my snow shoveling arms and back couldn't handle anymore we got another good amount of that gorgeous , sticking to all the branches, snowman building, avalanching off the rooftop sort of snow

more magical snow down in southern ontario

i will slowly make my way to work

and enjoy the beauty along the way

 

it started with the center

the portion of the moth that is comprised of the head, thorax and abdomen

it started on a short lunch break at my office

i almost always have some natural dyed thread and a tiny crochet hook at hand

the tools for a few moments of relaxation

later on the weekend a trip into my baskets of natural dyed loveliness

a few snips and some tiny basting stitches

the beginning of a beautiful creature

a moth

not a particular species

but

a new one

not yet discovered

snow cake with a rabbit on top

it was a dear friend, who lives on the other side of the ocean's birthday yesterday.I wish she had been with me in the early morning to experience what I saw.I awoken early, as the norm for me as you know. It was well before dawn and soft fresh snowflakes had been falling all night long. I opened the front door to let Edgar out to sniff out the beginning of the new day. He quickly darted off in an easterly direction to visit a neighbours bushes but I stayed on the porch for a few minutes looking toward the north, admiring the magical jewels in the snow over the fresh snow on the street. Out of the corner of my eye I caught something moving. Wait, not just one something but three somethings. As they got closer on their path straight down the middle of my street I realized they were rabbits, three brown rabbits. I wanted to grab my camera but instead I just stood there bundled up in my sweater and with my warm moccasins on and watched as they hopped in tandem down the street towards the small ravine at the end.  I didn't follow them into a rabbit hole. In fact I think they were trying to teach me their rabbit wisdom about if you find yourself stuck in a rut, use your inner light to guide yourself out.

A very good lesson indeed.

i think the internet has become a darker, more fearful place for some delicate hearts and minds over the past few years. But I also believe that if some of us continue to blog , post and share with the light in our hearts, filled with kindness, consideration and love of one another and of this place we call earth that perhaps those that have been frightened away may again feel it is a place of comfort , warmth and light.

Didn't set out for the post to turn this way, but i guess i am typing with my heart this morning.

we continue to experience a real canadian winter here in ontario

which is alright by me

sometimes i think all the mystical magic of the world is stored up in crystals of snow and ice

and then

then my mind drifts like the snow on my drive home from work last night

and I see the seeds of spring

in my minds eye

roasted butternut squash, carrot, parsnip and sweet potatoe soup with sourcream and organic bacon bits

served with left over gluten free corn bread from sunday nights supper

heart threads

in the winter i have less opportunity to take macro photographs of nature

recently my substitute for this has been photographing the tiny meditative stitches

these ones on natural linen with indigo thread i dyed

mending hearts

is it possible for a heart muscle to heal after a myocardial infarction

yes it is

the key is a peptide called thymosin beta 4

found in the thymus gland and in platelets

it acts on another protein called actin

that forms microtubules

that connect to form the cystoskeleton

the inner network that holds cells together and allows them to keep their shape

the cystoskeleton looks very similar to the stitching in my indigo hearts

especially that crazy quilt style one

ok now i am thinking i might have lost all my readers

and it is a good thing i don't ramble on about medicine and science very often
