whenever i visit the neighbourhood church rummage sale in the spring and fall
the first room i go to is the one with "linens"
a small room lined with table and piled high with old sheets, piloow cases, towels, tablecloths, fabric , etc
i patitently search the stacks as if on a treasure hunt
and often i find something that will cost no more than a dollar
this year i found some beautiful hankies, linen and crocheted pieces and an exquisite white linen tablecloth with embroidered details and hairpin lace inlay all around the edges
It was in perfect condition, not a stain, hole or fray but it was soooo white
I hesitated for a few seconds and then moistened it with warm tap water and then dipped it into the indigo vat
dipped it three times
the vat had just been refreshed and was filled to the brim so the piece wouldn't fit all in one go
i unfolded it and hung it on the line
and a little whiteness remained, a butterfly or damsel fly dancing in the wind on the deep indigo blueness

I have never seen anything like that tablecloth. Those dragons are amazing!! I think the indigo just brings out the incredible designs and lace. Well done!
