it got its name from the red cap the british soldiers wore when they fought during the american revolution
the red cap is actually an algae living atop a green fungal part
they support each others metabolism and one would not survive very well without the other
they would certainly not look as beautiful either

That's fascinating. I've never seen those. And, I never would have imagined that it was two separate living things. I would have thought it was one tiny plant with little flowers. Your photos are great!
