Today is my wonderful daughter Rebekah's birthday
or bekki with the starry i as she used to be known as
whenever i think of her i think of the warmth of summer
the bright sun, smiling sunflowers, brown eyes and brown eyed susans,
i wish i could pack up a picnic lunch and celebrate with her on a sandy beach somewhere
but i know matthew is talking excellent care of her
and i also know she is feeling all the love of her family

temperatures dropping from over 40 on friday to 14 degrees sunday night
a big storm to start the weekend that thank goodness didn't cause much harm around here
lots of time spent gardening and yard cleaning
it had been way to hot to do this for the last few weeks
fininished a little stripey cardigan and hat for grandbaby #2
ate loads of fresh fruits and veggies from local growers
had some laughs with lili
and
snuggles with edgar
who came out from hiding once the air became less humid

if you knew me
one thing you would realize is that i love the sunshine
and warm weather
it makes me feel more alive
i could play in it for hours
yet
this week , especially after last night with none of the promised rainfall
i am feeling a little wilted
perhaps it is just the aftermath of the really nasty gastoenteritis i had last thursday
or perhaps i am changing
time will tell
as it always does

quite weekend at home
except when lili miss sunshine livelied up ourselves
knitting , sipping and eating on the porch
started a soft stipey cardigan for grandbaby number 2
cooling off in the pool with the ducks
a visit to a local secret garden on sunday morning where despite the heat
lilith just ran around exploring all the garden paths
with her mom, auntie tamara and oma trying to keep up to her
enjoy the start to your week
it is going to be hot , hot, hot here in ontario

i adore this roadside plant
in june it blossoms with bright yellow stars
on tall stalks
in july they turn into
magic puffs
gently spreading their travelling seeds
over the meadows and far away
and in october
you can harvest the roots
which has a delicate oyster like taste
and is a wonderful side to fish
my nephew the montreal chef
taught me this
