i had to set aside my indigo work for a little bit
to take up the hook for a large commissioned piece
that unfortunately i can't show you quite yet
but I did make a little extra to go along with it
that was all a flutter to have it's picture taken
it really is as warm as it looks in these photographs:)
Once they got their bunny body parts sewn up and stuffed there was really no stopping them. They really are a energetic colorful herd. Not sure how they are going to handle being stuffed in an envelope and mailed off to Japan this week.
They sure had fun frolicking in the sun yesterday evening.

All you will need for this so simple it should be illegal tutorial is a hankie, or a similar square of fabric and a little bit of stuffing (optional). Thats right, no scissors, needles, thread or anything else except your own two hands.
To get started lay your hankie flat on a smooth surface.
This first version is unstuffed. Next fold your hankie in half along the diagonal.
Starting with the tip of the triangle start rolling the fabric ( not too tight) towards the fold.
Now bend your little roll in half.
Pick a spot about half way again and tie a knot ( again not too tight).
Arrange the darling little ears in a pleasant manner.
Wasn't that easy.
If you desire your bunny a little plumper it is easy to do with a small amount of any stuffing material. I use eco fill stuffing or wool roving.
Place your hankie on the surface. Along the diagonal and in the middle section lay a small amount of stuffing.
Now fold the hankie along the diagonal as before.
Start rolling the fabric at the tip of the triangle as previously. Stop just as you get snug with the stuffed section.
Proceed exactly as in the unstuffed version.
I bet you can't stop at making one. If so desire you might want to make up a herd of hankie bunnies to send to japan for operation bunny drop.
They also make wonderful holders for eggs for your easter table. You could even make them out of your napkins.
Now I am going to hop off to the garden to enjoy the glorious spring day.
To make bunnies for Operation Bunny Drop. It was after reading Pat's blog post that I was reminded of some bunny body parts I had in my vintage red suitcase that I had knit last year using this easy pattern. I also folded and tied a few from vintage cotton hankies. I tried it a few different ways before I came up with a shape I was happy with. I am definitely going to make some more of these tomorrow. My desk is overrun now with colorful little hoppers but it was too dark to take a picture of the completed herd. ( just learned that a group of rabbits is called a herd).
You see somebunny already loves them.

My theme is the dolphin searching for lost treasures at sea for the Lost at Sea show in May at Gallery hanahou, New York City. Here is what I have been working on so far.
I love working with vintage hankies. The shell is made with a very feminine hankie on the outside and a men's hankie on the inside. Cotton quilting batting in between and the segments of the shell are carefully stuffed with lambs wool to add to the three dimensional shape.

This was the last stone faced softie I made before the week of spring color and the pictures were taken just before all the snow and ice melted with the warm weather and rain. The stone face first appeared as a stepping stone for the small stone seal. The character and features that turned it into an owl just happened and were not really pre planned. This is really characteristic of how I work with the stones. It sometimes seems like they tell me as I hold them in my hand and begin to work with them, what they want to become.
The stone I used for the face came all the way from Australia from a very amazing artist and friend, Tiel. I am so sorry to hear she has a fractured rib and internal bruising. That is really painful and I wish this little owl could fly to her right now to send my wishes for a quick and full healing.
Totally unrelated except there is a bird involved is this image of the Armenian alphabet I took from one of the classrooms that were used as change rooms last weekend for my daughter's dance festival. I am quite smitten with it. If only the english language were as beautiful.
Is it a kamut (white goose) or tullik ( yellow beaked loon) or ugyuk ( bearded seal)???
No it is Kia which means "who" like in "who are you" because in the end I really couldn't decide. This tiny little stone creation has so much personality that it seems change completely depending on the perspective you adopt. Kia really blended in so quickly with the rest of the stone faced softie family. In some of the pictures you can even see her helping feed the little one.
One thing for sure is that she truly enjoys the company of others. I hope you are all enjoying your weekend. I am soaking up the sunshine in doors and will be heading out soon for a long walk and then off to the big city for a my youngest daughter's first dance competition of the year.
Akkulaitut is inuit meaning close to one another. This mother from the far north of Canada holds her small stone child in the hood of her amauti ( the traditional baby carrying parka of the inuit)
She is crocheted with handspun cashmere and alpaca with a lovely flat sea stone for a face and base. The baby is a naked sea stone with some special facial features. The doll is stuffed with very soft unspun merino wool. She wishes she could be close to each and every one of you.

Keanu Reeves seems to be quite a hit but we are quite surprised no one has mentioned poutine yet or the favorite fast food of the Vancouver Olympics, the japadog. We kept hearing about people waiting in line for hours to taste one of those.
