a wonderful place to visit at any time of year 

but even more so at christmas

looking forward to taking them for the candlelight walk when they are a little older

poetry stones

these stones are an extras special collaboration between cathy cullis the amazing artist from the UK and myself. The theme was natural dyed fabrics and threads from both our homes and the words of great canadian poet Leonard Cohen.

the money collected from their sales will be donated to the organization doctors without borders , an organization we both hold dear to our hearts

the stones will be sold after posting later today on instagram. They will all be the same price of 100 dollars canadian and i will ship them anywhere in the world for free. 

I will post the first batch at 8 am eastern standard time and the rest this evening at approximately 8pm set

payment should be made through paypal 

i am going to post the photographs here so that they can be previewed

hope we are all able to help the world a little bit more today

a solstice hello

just dropped in for a little hello and to let you know i am well 

and life is so beautiful and full right now

i spend almost all my free time with my grandchildren 

lilith and lachlan 

who are both growing in beauty and grace 

my heart swells so much sometimes that i feel it literally may burst

we have been exploring the garden , forest, local parks but their favourite place is the wetlands 

the preserved eco system that is between this town and the one just north

here we see turtles, frogs (all shapes and sizes), fish, heron, duck families, geese, beaver, deer, snails both aquatic and land

lili informs most people we meet on the trail not to step on the snails and is usually met with a smile

they love the surrounding meadow and the abundance of wild flowers in june

we usually bring a snack or picnic lunch and sit on a bench listening to the chorus of frogs

lili holds on the memory of these outings and talks about them for days usually starting with 

the phrase : "oma, remember when ....."

this past weekend while lachlan was napping lili went up stairs and changed into a dress i had made for her last year 

when she arrived down on the porch she asked if we could make her a crown 

this is what happened

i am really looking forward to taking them camping next week

1.5 and 3 years old already

growing in strength and capabilities

lachy has started to colour with every crayon in the box

he adores his sister and wants to follow her everywhere

lili loves to explore

puddles, ice, the corners of oma's desk

she adores dressing up and dancing

and especially loves to dance to the classical music of fantasia

she pulls out the ballet slippers as often as the tap shoes now

she is trying to make sense of this natural world

we talked about the woodpecker pecking at the large maple tree

to feast on insects

oma, are insects like bugs under the rocks

yes lily they are

when it started snowing again on sunday

she asked is christmas coming again

Dear blog

sorry to have ignored you for so long

didn't really plan this but i have been super busy with family, work and making since the new year

i mean if you had to choose between playing in the snow or baking cookies with lilith and lachlan in your precious spare time or typing on a computer 

what would you do

of course

I did want to show you the work for my group art show Terrain  at the Craft Ontario Shop (formerly the guild shop) in Yorkville, Toronto running from March 23 to April 12.

my work was inspired by the north, the landscape of sea, snow and ice for the majority of the year and then the uncovered tundra with its mosses, grasses , sedges and lichen with its ever so brief appearance of arctic wildflowers

the stage for these photographs was created with ice globes made by freezing water in balloons

this was facilitated by the deep freeze experienced all of the month of february

when I photographed these it was snowing softly 

it was worth my frozen finger tips

two of my favourite things

i love trying to capture them with my camera

the best ones are funny enough usually on my car

or wooden outdoor tables

here are a few photographs from two early morning weekend walks taken

one just north of where i live and the other south on a trail that i just discovered

even though i have lived in this area for decades

it wraps itself around the unpopulated portion of a small kettle lake
